OVERVIEW OF THE ASBESTOS PROJECT
The project involved asbestos studies for rehabilitation of a significant number of care home facilities throughout the North of England and Scotland.
The client, a renowned engineering support firm situated in Edinburgh, commissioned Asbestos Removal 247 to conduct a thorough inspection of over 60 premises for the presence of asbestos in order to allow the refurbishment work to proceed safely.
Over a four-week period, asbestos surveys were conducted, with teams of surveyors entering buildings with a client representative. Prior to each asbestos survey, the scope of work was validated on-site.
This resulted in less damage and less interruption for the building’s residents. Around 60% of the buildings assessed had asbestos. In the majority of cases, the material could be managed in situ, with only a small percentage requiring complete asbestos removal prior to the commencement of the main project works.
During the refurbishing asbestos surveys, a variety of asbestos-containing items were discovered. The asbestos used in the construction was a combination of legal and unlicensed asbestos. If the structure had been harmed during the rehabilitation process, there would have been a significant risk to human health.
