A homeowner in Glasgow recently contacted the asbestos removal professionals at Asbestos Removal 247 after discovering what he
assumed were asbestos tiles in the basement of the home.
After establishing that the 9-inch by 9-inch tiles did indeed contain asbestos, we discovered that the mastic (the glue used to set the tile in
place) did as well. Finding asbestos-containing tile and mastic is a fairly common occurrence, and removing both is a reasonably normal
operation for our crew.
The initial step in our approach was to completely shut off the basement from the rest of the house, including the doors, with 6mm plastic.
Following that, we shut down all HVAC systems. This prevents hazardous asbestos spores from being introduced into the residence
during our cleanup process.
Following that, we erected a HEPA exhaust system from within the work area, which generates negative pressure.
Our team then dressed in protective gear and began the meticulous process of removing every tile and mastic from the concrete
basement floor, employing the wet gross removal method.
After wrapping and sealing the waste in two 6mm polyurethane bags, it was deposited in 55-gallon sealed fibre drums. Following that, we
HEPA vacuumed and wet cleaned the area with modified water. Waste hauling and disposal were carried out in accordance with all
applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
Finally, clearance air samples were collected by an I.D.P.H.-licensed air sampling professional and will be tested by a third-party
laboratory.
